If you are looking for a quieter, more exclusive, and modern luxury experience, the newly developed area of Costa Mujeres (just north of the city) is highly recommended. It offers pristine, uncrowded beaches and brand-new, ultra-luxurious resorts away from the party crowds.

For budget travelers, backpackers, and those seeking authentic Mexican food and culture, staying in Downtown (El Centro) is a great option. While you will need to take a quick bus ride to reach the beach, you will find charming boutique hotels, local markets, and significantly lower prices.
