What the Route Looks Like

You depart from the Street Kart Tokyo Bay shop in Shinkiba. After a safety briefing and costume selection, you hit the road.
Rainbow Bridge. Drive across Tokyo’s iconic suspension bridge with views of the bay, the city skyline, and Odaiba. At night, the bridge is illuminated and the skyline glows.
Tokyo Tower. Pass directly under the 333-meter red and white tower. At night, driving beneath it while lit up is the moment most reviewers describe as unforgettable.
Tokyo Bay waterfront. Cruise along the harbor with open views of the water and the city.
Your guide leads the pack, controls the pace, and stops at key photo spots along the way. You follow in formation. The karts are faster than you’d expect and handle well on city roads.
Before You Book (Critical Requirements)
International Driving Permit (IDP) required. This is mandatory, no exceptions. You need a physical IDP issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention format PLUS your physical passport. Digital copies are not accepted. Without these, you cannot drive and will not receive a refund.
Exceptions to the IDP rule:
- Licenses from Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium, or Monaco require a Japanese translation from the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) instead of an IDP
- Licenses from China, Indonesia, Mexico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and some other countries are not valid for driving in Japan at all
Get your IDP before traveling to Japan. In most countries, it takes 1 to 2 weeks through your national automobile association (AAA in the US, AA in the UK, etc.).
Other requirements:
- Minimum age: 18 years old
- Closed flat shoes required (no sandals, no heels)
- No long flowy skirts or dresses
- Safety glasses recommended (dust and small debris are a real issue at speed)
- Ponchos provided if it rains
- Insurance: basic coverage included. Optional full coverage available for ¥1,000 (~$7) paid in cash at the shop. This covers the deductible and is recommended.
Groups of 6+ drivers: your group will be split into two smaller groups with separate guides. Book together (not individually) to ensure you ride together.
Best Time to Book

- Night tour: the most popular option. Tokyo’s neon skyline and illuminated landmarks make the night ride significantly more dramatic. Bring a jacket as it gets cool at speed.
- Morning tour: quieter roads, clearer visibility, better for photos. Good if you prefer less traffic.
- Rainy days: tours run rain or shine. Ponchos are provided. Some reviewers say the rain adds to the adventure.
