The Phi Phi Islands sit about 40 km off the coast of Phuket in the Andaman Sea. Six islands make up the archipelago, including Maya Bay (the filming location of “The Beach” with Leonardo DiCaprio), Pileh Lagoon, Monkey Beach, Viking Cave, and Bamboo Island. A speedboat day trip from Phuket is the most popular way to see them all in one day.
Here’s how to book the right tour.
What to Look for in a Phi Phi Island Tour

Not all Phi Phi tours from Phuket are the same. The biggest differences come down to group size, lunch quality, and how many stops are included. Some budget tours pack 35+ passengers on a single speedboat and skip islands when time runs short. Others serve a boxed lunch on the boat instead of a proper meal.
The tour below solves all of these issues. It’s operated by V. Marine Tour out of Royal Phuket Marina, holds a 4.8-star rating from 3,400+ reviews with 95% of travelers recommending it, and won the 2025 Viator Experience Award, which recognizes the top-rated experiences worldwide based on verified bookings and reviews.

Full Day Itinerary

Your day starts with hotel pickup between 7:00 and 8:00 AM (depending on your hotel location). After check-in and light refreshments at Royal Phuket Marina, you board the speedboat for the approximately 1-hour ride across the Andaman Sea.
Bamboo Island. Your first stop is this uninhabited island with pristine white sand and shallow turquoise water. One hour for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing.
Phi Phi Don. The only inhabited island in the archipelago. This is where you have your buffet lunch with a seaview, in a private section reserved for V. Marine guests only. No sharing the dining area with hundreds of other tourists from different tour operators.
Monkey Beach. A quick 10-minute stop to see the wild macaques swimming, climbing, and jumping in their natural habitat. The guide will remind you to keep your distance, as the monkeys are wild animals.
Pileh Lagoon. The highlight of the tour for most travelers. Emerald green water surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Thirty minutes to swim and float in what feels like a natural infinity pool.
Maya Bay. One hour of free time at the famous beach from “The Beach.” The bay was closed for several years for environmental recovery and is now open again with visitor limits.
Return to the marina by 5:00 to 5:30 PM, with hotel drop-off after.
Before You Book: Practical Tips
- Best time to visit: November through April is the dry season with calm seas and the best visibility for snorkeling. May through October is monsoon season, so some departures may be cancelled due to weather. Maya Bay closes every year from August 1 to September 30 for environmental recovery.
- Seasickness: the speedboat ride takes about 1 hour each way and can be bumpy at high speeds. V. Marine provides anti-seasickness pills, but take them before boarding if you’re prone to motion sickness.
- What to bring: swimwear (wear it under your clothes), reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a waterproof bag or pouch for your phone (you can buy one at the marina, but it’s cheaper to bring your own), a towel, and a change of dry clothes.
- What not to bring: large bags or valuables you can’t carry on the boat.
- Kids: children are welcome. There are children’s pricing available at booking.
- Not recommended for: pregnant travelers, people with serious back or heart problems, or cruise ship passengers (docking times may conflict with the speedboat departure).
- Weather cancellations: if the tour is cancelled due to weather, you get the option of an alternative date or a full refund.
- Cancellation policy: free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.

A 4.8-star rating from 3,400+ reviews and a Viator Experience Award speak for themselves. V. Marine is one of the few operators that serves lunch in a private resort section, provides brand new snorkel mouthpieces for every guest, and keeps group sizes at 25 or fewer. Spots fill quickly during the dry season, especially for December and January departures.
