Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Tour Tickets: Prices, Full Day Itinerary and How to Book

Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain are the two must-see landmarks in Rio de Janeiro. Most first-time visitors want to see both, but figuring out transportation, tickets, and timing on your own in a city you don’t know can eat up half your day. A full-day guided tour solves all of that in one booking.

Here’s how to see both in one day without the hassle.

Why Book a Combined Tour Instead of Separate Tickets

Christ The Redeemer And Sugarloaf Tour: Why Book A Combined Tour Instead Of Separate Tickets

Buying tickets separately means coordinating two different attractions, two different queues, and navigating Rio’s transit system between them. Here’s what that looks like in 2026:

Doing it yourself:

  • Christ the Redeemer (Paineiras van or Corcovado train): R$80 to R$130 per person depending on access method
  • Sugarloaf cable car: R$170 per adult, R$85 for children 6 to 12
  • Transportation between the two: taxi/Uber R$30 to R$60 each way
  • Lunch: R$60 to R$120 per person
  • Total: roughly R$400 to R$500 per person (approximately $75 to $95), plus the time and stress of coordinating everything in a city where safety awareness is important for tourists

Full-day guided tour (everything included):

  • From $55 per person
  • Includes entrance to Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf cable car, buffet lunch, bilingual guide, air-conditioned vehicle, and hotel pickup and drop-off
  • 4.7 stars from 760+ reviews, 93% of travelers recommend it

The guided tour is not just more convenient. It’s also safer. Your guide knows the city, adjusts the itinerary based on weather (visiting Christ the Redeemer when clouds are clearing, for example), and handles all logistics so you can focus on the experience.

Full Day Itinerary

Sugarloaf Mountain

Your day starts at 8:00 AM with hotel pickup. The guide contacts you before the tour to confirm your exact pickup time based on your hotel location.

Christ the Redeemer (Corcovado). The tour takes the Paineiras route, a 20-minute scenic drive through the Tijuca Forest to the base of the statue. You’ll have about 1 hour at the top for photos and to take in the 360-degree panoramic view of Rio. On a clear day, you can see Sugarloaf, Copacabana, Ipanema, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, and the entire Guanabara Bay from up here.

Sugarloaf Mountain. The cable car ride happens in two stages. First from ground level to Morro da Urca (224 meters), then from Urca to the summit of Sugarloaf (395 meters). Each cable car ride takes about 3 minutes. You’ll have roughly 1 hour total to explore both levels, take photos, and enjoy the views. On the way up, you pass directly over Praia Vermelha, one of Rio’s most charming beaches.

Buffet Lunch. A Brazilian buffet lunch is included at a local restaurant. Expect rice, beans, grilled meats, salads, and Brazilian sides. Drinks and desserts are not included but can be purchased separately.

Escadaria Selarón. The famous mosaic staircase in Santa Teresa, covered in over 2,000 colorful tiles from more than 60 countries. Created by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón over 20 years. About 30 minutes to explore and photograph.

Metropolitan Cathedral. The modern cone-shaped cathedral of São Sebastião, completely different from traditional European cathedrals. Beautiful stained-glass windows reaching from floor to ceiling. Quick 30-minute stop.

Sambódromo and Maracanã (drive-by or quick stop). You’ll see the Sambadrome (where Rio’s Carnival parades happen) and pass by Maracanã Stadium. Entry to Maracanã is not included but can be arranged.

Return to your hotel by approximately 5:00 PM.

Before You Book: Practical Tips

Before You Book: Practical Tips
  • Best time to visit Christ the Redeemer: early morning (before 10 AM) for fewer crowds, or late afternoon for golden light. Your guide will adjust the order of stops based on weather and cloud cover, which is a major advantage of a guided tour versus going on your own.
  • What to wear: comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses. Layers are useful because the temperature at the top of Corcovado is usually a few degrees cooler than at sea level.
  • What to bring: camera, water bottle, and a light rain jacket (weather at the summit can change quickly). Cash or card for drinks at lunch and any souvenirs.
  • Weather: Rio’s dry season (May to September) has the clearest skies. December to March is warmer but rainier. If Christ the Redeemer is completely covered in clouds, your guide may rearrange the itinerary to visit Sugarloaf first and return to Corcovado later when the clouds lift.
  • Safety: Rio requires normal urban safety awareness. The guided tour keeps you in safe, tourist-friendly areas with transportation between every stop. You won’t need to use public transit or walk through unfamiliar neighborhoods.
  • Kids: children are welcome. Sugarloaf and Christ the Redeemer both require ID for children to confirm age discounts.
  • Accessibility: this tour is not wheelchair accessible due to the terrain at several stops.
  • Carnival season: this tour is not available during Carnival.
  • Languages: guides are available in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. Minimum 2 people required for German or French-speaking guides.
  • Cancellation: free cancellation up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.
