Winter, from December through February, is generally mild compared with many destinations in the United States, with cool mornings, comfortable afternoons, and occasional cold fronts. Freezing conditions are uncommon but possible, while snow is extremely rare. January and early February can offer good hotel value outside major events, but Mardi Gras dates vary each year and can transform late winter into one of the busiest travel periods.
