Prague has a temperate continental climate with four distinct seasons, ranging from cold winters and colorful autumns to mild springs and comfortably warm summers. The city can be visited throughout the year, but weather conditions have a strong influence on crowd levels, hotel prices, daylight hours, and the types of activities available. Summer is the warmest and busiest season, while winter brings lower temperatures, occasional snow, festive decorations, and Prague's popular Christmas markets.

Spring, from March through May, begins with cool and unpredictable weather before becoming milder and greener later in the season. March can still feel wintry, with chilly mornings and occasional frost, while April often alternates between sunshine, rain, and sudden temperature changes. By May, parks and gardens are in bloom, outdoor cafés become more active, and daytime temperatures are generally comfortable for walking through the Old Town, Prague Castle, Malá Strana, and the riverside districts.

Summer, from June through August, usually brings warm days, long daylight hours, outdoor concerts, river cruises, beer gardens, and festivals. July and August are typically the warmest months, although heatwaves can occasionally push temperatures higher. Rainfall is possible throughout the season and may arrive as brief showers or thunderstorms, so carrying a light waterproof layer remains useful. Summer also attracts the largest crowds, particularly around Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and Prague Castle.

Autumn, from September through November, is one of the most atmospheric periods to visit Prague. September often remains pleasantly mild, while October brings cooler temperatures and colorful foliage across city parks and hillsides. November is colder, darker, and generally quieter before the Christmas market season begins. Winter, from December through February, is cold with short daylight hours, freezing nights, fog, and occasional snowfall. Warm clothing, waterproof footwear, gloves, and layered garments are essential, especially for evening walks and outdoor sightseeing.

The best time to visit Prague for comfortable weather and manageable crowds is generally late April through May or September through early October. Travelers interested in Christmas markets and festive scenery may prefer December, while budget-conscious visitors often find lower hotel prices during January, February, and parts of November. Regardless of the season, Prague's weather can change quickly, so checking the forecast and carrying layers is recommended.
