The first dry season, from June through September, is widely considered one of the best times to visit Kigali. Rainfall is limited, humidity is lower, and roads are generally easier for regional travel. These months are especially suitable for combining the capital with gorilla trekking, wildlife safaris, or lake itineraries elsewhere in Rwanda. Daytime temperatures remain comfortable, while evenings can feel cool enough for a light jacket.

A shorter dry period usually occurs from December through February. Conditions are generally warm and pleasant, although brief showers remain possible. This season is popular for city sightseeing, cultural attractions, restaurants, and travel into Rwanda's national parks. Holiday periods and international conferences can increase hotel demand, so early booking is recommended.

The long rainy season generally runs from March through May, with April often among the wettest months. Showers can be intense, roads may become slower, and some rural routes require additional caution. Kigali remains green and attractive, and rainfall often arrives in concentrated periods rather than lasting all day. A shorter rainy season usually occurs from October through November, bringing changing skies and occasional heavy downpours.

Kigali can be visited throughout the year, but June through September and December through February provide the most reliable conditions for urban sightseeing and regional travel.
